mediator is a paracutorial platform based in Manila

For its first phase, 2026-2028, it is envisioned as a library, a curatorial and art writing workshop, an open studio program, and possibly, a small press.

mediator is interested in looking at the “paracuratorial.” The prefix “para-” stages an ancillary relation: near, beside, beyond, off, away. It explores methods, sensibilities, frameworks, and practices that work within, alongside, or as supplement to exemplary curatorial frameworks such as the exhibition or the collection. It asks questions around ways of relating to and engaging with artworks and artistic practices beyond the exhibition and collection setting.

mediator aims to think about the myriad practices that exist prior to and in preparation for the exhibition: making, researching, writing, designing, etc.; and, in the exhibition’s afterlife: from annotating, archiving, critiquing, to publication, pedagogy, programming.

mediator leans into the possible reconsiderations offered by paracuratorial practices. It positions itself as a site where the notion of the curatorial and the exhibition as an exemplary curatorial framework is temporarily displaced. By taking the lead of the paracuratorial, the curatorial is dissipated into more general practices of mediation.
